Airports

Venice airport (42 km from Padova) www.veniceairport.it

By bus
The SITA coach to Padova leaves (every 30 minutes, every 60 minutes on Sundays) from just outside the arrivals terminal. Tickets are sold at the ATVO booth in the arrivals hall.
By train
Take bus no. 15 to Mestre railway station (tickets are sold at the ATVO booth in the arrivals hall). During the day trains to Padova are very frequent (every 15-20 minutes). Timetables and fares are available from the english vesion of the site.
By air service taxi
Venice Airport is served by Padova’s radiotaxi air service. A taxi can be booked on the internet at www.taxipadova.it, by e-mail at http://www.taxipadova.it/prenotazioni.asp, or by telephone. For an individual taxi ring 049 651333. A collective mini-bus is cheaper but not always available (ring 049 8704425).

Treviso (Venice-Treviso) airport (50 km from Padova)

By bus
to Padova: Daytime flights connect with a SITA coach to Padova which leaves from just outside the airport (every 30 minutes during the week; every hour on Sundays). Tickets are sold at the information booth inside the arrivals hall.
to Venezia-Mestre: ATVO buses connect Treviso airport to Venice-Mestre, where you can take a train, or another bus to Padova. A single ticket from Treviso airport to Venezia-Mestre is 4,40 € (luggage included). A return ticket is 7,80€ (luggage included). Timetables are available at http://www.atvo.it/eng/airport.php
By train
Take the ATVO bus to Mestre railway station (tickets are sold in the arrivals hall). Timetables and fares are available at http://www.ferroviedellostato.it.
By taxi
Treviso Airport is served by Padova’s radiotaxi air service. You can book a taxi at 049 651333 (further information about Padova taxi service at www.taxipadova.it)

Verona airport (80 km from Padova) www.aeroportoverona.it

By bus
A coach outside the terminal will take you directly to the railway station (every 20 minutes; fare 3.62 €; tickets are sold at the information booth inside the arrivals hall).
By train
During the daytime there is one train every hour to Padova. Timetables and fares are available at http://www.trenitalia.com/.
By taxi
Taxis are available at the rank outside the terminal. The fare to the railway station is about 20 €.

Trains

Padova is on both the Venezia-Milano and the Venezia-Roma lines, so many trains are available.
The typical ride time:

  • from Milano to Padova - from 2 to 3 hours
  • from Roma to Padova - from 4 to 6 hours
  • from Verona to Padova - about 1 hour
  • from Venezia to Padova - 30 minutes
  • from Treviso to Padova - about 1 hour
  1. first and second class are available;
  2. for fast trains, such as “Eurostar” (ES), “Eurocity” (EC), “Intercity” (IC) and “Cisalpino” (CIS) the basic ticket must be accompanied by an extra supplement. For Eurostar and Cisalpino a seat reservation is also required. You must specify which type of train you are going to take when you ask for a ticket. If you pay the difference or pay for the ticket on board, you will be charged an extra 8€ on top of the difference in price;
  3. all tickets (both round-trip and one way) have a validity of 2 months. Before boarding the train, you must stamp the ticket in one of the yellow machines located on the platforms and at various points throughout the station.

Motorways

Padova is linked by motorway (Italian "Autostrade") with Venezia, Milano and Bologna. Motorways are coded with an “A” followed by a number and the road signs indicating them are green (the signs indicating other types of road are blue).
Typical travel times:

  1. from Milano to Padova (about 230 kilometers or 143 miles) is about 2 hours (100 km/h);
  2. from Verona to Padova 1 hour,
  3. from Venezia to Padova 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the weather and traffic;

On all motorways in Italy you must pay a toll when exiting. The driver is automatically issued a ticket on entering the motorway, and this must be produced at the exit. If you wish to pay by VISA, use exits marked “viacard” or “fastpay” and insert your card in the automatic payment machine.
The motorway speed limit is 130 km/h (off the motorway it is 70 km/h in the country, unless otherwise specified, and 50 km/h in towns, unless otherwise specified). While on the motorway, headlights must be turned on even during daytime. If you are not accustomed to driving on the right, please remember that roundabouts must be entered counterclockwise.
